Privacy Policy
Summary
In plain language: FolksKeeper stores everything you enter — medications, appointments, care log notes, documents, contacts — in your own iCloud account. BrightBench LLC, the company behind FolksKeeper, never sees it, never sells it, and doesn't run any servers to collect it on. There's no account to create, no analytics, and no advertising. When you invite family into your Care Circle, the shared information is stored in iCloud for the people you invite so they can see and add to the same binder.
What FolksKeeper stores, and where
FolksKeeper stores the information you choose to enter about the person you care for: their profile (name, date of birth, conditions, allergies, blood type, code status), medications, appointments, care log entries, tasks, documents (such as insurance cards or advance directives), and contacts. All of this is stored using Apple's CloudKit in your own private iCloud database. If you invite someone to your Care Circle, the shared care recipient's data is stored in iCloud for each person you invite, so everyone in the circle can see and contribute to the same binder.
What BrightBench LLC can access
Nothing. BrightBench LLC does not operate a server that FolksKeeper talks to. We cannot see, download, or be shown any of the information you or your family enter into the app. FolksKeeper includes no analytics software, no advertising software, no tracking of any kind, no crash-reporting software, and no third-party software development kits of any kind.
Permissions
FolksKeeper only asks for a device permission at the moment you use a feature that needs it, never at launch or during setup:
- Camera — only when you choose to scan a document or photograph a medication bottle.
- Notifications — used only for refill and appointment reminders you turn on; these are scheduled on your own device.
- Photos — accessed only through Apple's system picker, which only shares the specific photos you select; FolksKeeper never sees your full photo library.
Adding an appointment to your calendar opens Apple's own event editor; FolksKeeper does not read your calendar and requests no calendar permission.
When you type an appointment's location, FolksKeeper asks Apple Maps for matching places and addresses so you can pick one. The text you type is sent to Apple and handled under Apple's privacy policy; it never reaches BrightBench LLC, and FolksKeeper doesn't ask for or use your location.
Purchases
FolksKeeper offers an optional "FolksKeeper Family" auto-renewing subscription, processed entirely by Apple. BrightBench LLC never receives your payment details — Apple handles billing, and we only learn whether a subscription is active. See the Subscriptions section of the Terms of Use for the full auto-renewal disclosure.
Sharing with your care circle
When you invite family members to a care recipient's Care Circle, the shared data is stored in iCloud for the people you invite, using Apple's CloudKit sharing. Each member sees only what has been shared with them. Removing a member from the circle, or a member leaving, stops their access to future updates.
Keeping and deleting your data
- The Organizer (the person who created a care recipient) can delete that care recipient from within the app, which removes the binder from iCloud for everyone in the circle.
- Any Member can leave a circle at any time from within the app.
- More › Export All Data creates a copy of your information that you can save or share.
- Deleting the FolksKeeper app removes the copy of the data stored on your device.
- You can also manage or remove FolksKeeper's iCloud data directly in iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
Children's privacy
FolksKeeper is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because we do not collect data at all — everything stays in your own iCloud account.
Your rights — California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. BrightBench LLC does not sell or share personal information, and because FolksKeeper stores your information in your own iCloud account rather than on our servers, we do not hold a copy of it to disclose, correct, or delete on your behalf. You can exercise these rights directly within the app — through the profile editor, the Care Log and document editors, and More › Export All Data or Delete care recipient — or by managing your data in iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud. You may also contact us at the address below with any questions.
Your rights — EU/UK and similar laws
If data protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply to you, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, and objection. Because your information lives under your own control in your iCloud account rather than on a BrightBench LLC server, you exercise these rights directly: use More › Export All Data for a portable copy, edit any field directly in the app for rectification, and use Delete care recipient or leave a circle for erasure. You're welcome to contact us at the address below if you have questions or need help.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the app's release notes. Continuing to use FolksKeeper after a change means you accept the updated policy.
